THE COMMITMENT
Happy New Year! Hope 2026 is off to a great start for you. Weโve had the flu in our house (thankfully only one person got it), my middle son got braces, and a lot of football was watched. Rested and ready for this year.
The "New Year, New Me" hype will start wearing off this soon. That crowded gym wonโt be so crowded this time next week. The motivation will start to fade.
This is where the Drift begins.
Drift happens when you have hype, but no system. Motivation, but no map. Goals, but no plan.
To fight gravity, you need more than motivation. You need a code. This is something Iโve been working on for a few months and the beginning of the year feels like the time to publish it.
Over the last few years working with leaders in business and high-performance sports, a number of themes have come up. Iโve tried to take them and develop a sort of operating system for my own life. These are the rules I return to when I feel myself slipping. Commitments that help me stay above the line.
The 10 Rules of NO DRIFT
1. Take Ownership. You are not a passenger in life. You have agency. Take ownership.
2. Reject average. Life wants to pull you down. Fight back.
3. You vs You. You donโt have to prove yourself to anyone. Run your race.
4. Boring Wins. Discipline is boring. Consistency is boring. Greatness is boring.
5. Donโt Negotiate With Yourself. You committed to it, so do it.
6. Believe Better. Negativity is easy and everywhere. Believe better.
7. Feelings Donโt Win. Feel feelings, but donโt give them the keys to the car.
8. Win at home. Be as intentional at home as you are at work.
9. Progress, not perfection. Reject perfectionism. Just get better.
10. Win the 24. The only fight that matters is today. Be where your feet are.
The Q1 Plan
For the next 10 weeks, I am going to break down one rule per week. We are going to deconstruct exactly what each one means, why they matter and how they help us stay above the line. Iโm open to feedback on these as well (after all, this is our community).
Print this list. Tape it to your mirror. Put it as your lock screen. Keep it as a reminder. Do something with it to make it your own (tag NO DRIFT on Instagram to let us see it). Iโll work on some social media graphics over the coming weeks as well.
Letโs make 2026 amazing, together.
Live above the line.
For you,
Kevin
