Changing up the format a bit this week. Let me know your thoughts. Also, I’m launching another leadership cohort and would love to have you in it. 12 months of content, tools, accountability, growth. Reply for info.
THE RESISTANCE
Change is always met with resistance. I was talking with someone last week who had been trying to quit drinking as much. “Within 5 minutes of making that declaration, I had a text from a friend group about going out on the weekend.”
We all have stories like this. Maybe you’re living in it right now. I say often during my keynotes that the world is perfectly fine with you being average. But the second you decide to pursue your potential, you become a threat.
“Why do you care so much?”
“Why do you work so hard?”
“You don’t need to get up early to work out. Stay out with us.”
“Look, it’s just one drink. You didn’t say you were quitting completely.”
Resistance is everywhere. It came come from other people, from circumstances, from our own mind. What we must do is clearly label resistance so that we can have a proper response. With that in mind, there are three types of resistance (these are true in our personal growth but also in business, career, etc):
Barriers: things that we cannot change (parts of your schedule, family responsibilities, etc)
Hurdles: things we must overcome (you want to get healthy but don’t have a gym membership or weights at home, limiting beliefs)
Gaps: things we must fill in before moving forward (like hiring a coach for a specific area of growth)
One thing I see often is that most people label their resistance as a barrier when in reality it is a hurdle or gap. By incorrectly labeling it as a barrier, we avoid taking action and end up stuck.
How you see resistance impacts how you attack it and how (or if) you overcome it.
📌 QUOTE OF THE WEEK "The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials.” - Seneca
🧠 INSIGHT: The path to getting better is not complicated but it is not easy. Resistance is not a reason to quit, is a sign that you need to keep going.
THINGS I FOUND INTERESTING THIS WEEK

NO DRIFT CHALLENGE
This week: Identify where resistance is impacting you right now. Have you been seeing it incorrectly? Accurately label it and then create a plan to get around it, over it, through it.
I’d love to hear how you are fighting The Drift this week. Reply to this email to let me know. Even better, post it on Instagram and tag @no.drift. Let’s build a community of encouragement there.
CLOSING THOUGHT
You have what it takes to overcome resistance. Remember what you said you wanted. Remember why you want it. Let that power you through.
For you,
Kevin
