CHANGE EQUATION

Over the last few weeks we’ve talked about the need for creating change and the resistance that we often come up against when trying to create change. I want to put it all together for you in a formula that will help you create any change you need in your life. It’s called The Change Equation, and it looks like this:

CHANGE: D X V X N > RESISTANCE

To create change you have to get specific with your Dissatisfaction, have a clear and compelling Vision that is greater than your dissatisfaction, commit to taking the Natural Next Step toward that vision and you will overcome the resistance you are facing.

Let’s break this down practically. Let’s say, for example you want to improve your physical health. Something there needs to change. But you are overwhelmed with how much work needs to be done, how much time it will take, what you think it may cost, etc. So you stop and start and stop and start and stop and start, never really making progress. To create lasting change, look at it this way:

Dissatisfaction: what specifically about your health are you dissatisfied with? Your weight? Your appearance? Your energy? And how dissatisfied are you?

Vision: What is your vision for your health? In my opinion, it needs to be more/better than “I want to lose X pounds.” That’s not bad, but why? Maybe it’s that you want to be able to be active for your kids/grandkids/family. Maybe you want to be proud of how you look in the mirror. Maybe it’s that you want to run a marathon. It needs to be something that drives you on days you where you don’t feel motivated.

Natural Next Step: what can you do today? It may not be to complete a workout. It might be to join a gym. It might be to call a few gyms to see what a membership costs. It might be to go for a 10 minute walk. Something small, something you can accomplish today and build on tomorrow. Commit and act.

This is how you overcome resistance and create change in your life. You can apply this to your finances, to your relationships, to your career. Most people waste their life complaining about what they are dissatisfied with, yet never to anything to get better. They let The Drift win. Intentional men take action and move forward.

📌 QUOTE OF THE WEEK "The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” - Socrates

🧠 INSIGHT: Dissatisfaction is a natural part of life. Don’t dwell on it, don’t dismiss it, deal with it. Don’t let The Drift win. Work to close the gap between dissatisfaction and action.
